Is area code 725 a scam?
No. Area code 725 is a legitimate area code serving Las Vegas since 2014. Scammers spoof caller ID to display 725 numbers, which is why complaints exist against a code that is itself genuine.
Neighbour spoofing is the reason a local-looking number is not a guarantee. A caller anywhere in the world can display a 725 number, and the number they display may belong to a real business in Las Vegas that has nothing to do with the call.

Area codes that overlay 725
Area code 725 shares its geographic footprint with one other code: 702. Overlays are laid over an existing area rather than splitting it, so all local calls require the full ten-digit number.
Area code 725 serves Las Vegas, Nevada, as an overlay of the original 702, in service since 2014. The economy here still runs on hospitality, gaming, and conventions. The Strip's resort operators, including MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment, are among the region's largest employers, and the convention calendar fills hotel rooms and restaurant seats year round. The past decade added professional sports, logistics parks along the I-15 corridor, and a growing back-office and tech presence, so the customer base is broader than the casino floor suggests.
Who lives in the 725 region
Las Vegas counted about 660,400 residents in 2024, with a median household income of $73,877 and roughly 305,800 people employed, per DataUSA. The city keeps growing on arrivals from California and elsewhere, which means many of the people answering a phone here moved in recently and hold no strong attachment to either local code. Because 725 numbers only started appearing in 2014, some longtime residents still read 702 as the hometown code and 725 as the newer sibling, though both ring to the same neighborhoods.
What a 725 number signals to a caller
Business here follows the hospitality clock. Much of the workforce is on shifts tied to casinos, restaurants, and events, so callers describe reaching decision makers at odd hours as more normal than in nine-to-five markets. All local calls require ten-digit dialing because of the overlay, and a caller from outside should know that a 725 number is fully local to Las Vegas, Nevada, not a sign of a newcomer or an out-of-town operation.
